The condors or griffon vultures live in the mountains and plateaus, and like to spend their time among the forests, prairies, deserts, and rocky areas.

They would fly high or rest among the rocks, sometimes, they could be seen in the sky above the snowy horizon. During breeding season, they could be found between altitudes of 2000-6000 meters, and sometimes play at the foot of the mountain during winter.

Mountain condors are resident birds. They often fly as high as 6000 meters, and are one of the highest-flying birds in the world, in the same league as the whooper swans.

Mountain condors rely on carrion and carcass for food, and do not normally attack live animals. Their sense of sight and smell are really sharp, and they like to spend time looking for animal carcass on the ground from up above.

When they spot their target by smell, they will swoop down and fight with other birds for the food. When food is scarce, they would resort to eating frogs, lizards, birds, small animals, and/or large beetles and locusts.
