According to the Tourism Development Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region, Lhasa and Nyingchi Cities have formally been included into the plan on the building of first batch of national general tourism demonstration areas so far.

Starting in 2016, the tourism authorities of Tibet will upgrade tourism infrastructure faster, gradually create a general landscape for the whole region, and provide “personalized tours”.

As the capital of Tibet, Lhasa boasts profound culture and rich natural and cultural resources, a major destination for domestic and foreign tourists in Tibet. Nyingchi, known as “south-China-style city in Tibet”, offers primordial forests, glaciers, and waterfalls, and is another important part of ecological tourism in Tibet.

In order to promote the building of general tourism demonstration areas, the tourism authorities of Tibet have gone into action. Karma Tseten, deputy director of the Tibet Tourism Development Committee, explained that Lhasa and Nyingchi will run test sites with travel agency approvals this year while growing new consumer hot spots. Tourism products featuring countryside-, cultural-, and RV-tours will be cultivated.

In addition, Tibet will speed up its development of basic tourism infrastructure and tourist relief facilities, promote “tourism + internet,” “tourism + cultural development,” and “tourism + sport industry development” respectively and gradually offer “personalized tours” to meet the needs of all types of tourists.
