The smart app “Car Has Arrived”, full coverage WIFI in public transport, and independent development of the “Car Reservation” platform… at present, all of these projects, already or in the process of being implemented, will be the first batch of “big benefits”sent by Lhasa city government for city residents in the public transportation this year.

“At present, Lhasa has already implemented and commenced operation of information technology enabled smart transportation projects including the “Car Has Arrived” smart app, the city public dispatch supervision platform reformation and improvement amongst other things.” The vice bureau chief of the Lhasa City Transportation Bureau Zhiqiang Du said that the “Car Has Arrived” smart app would be greatly beneficial for numerous city residents by reducting their waiting time.

At the same time, 9 million yuan (1.45 million US dollars) has been invested for electronic bus display boards for which tests are currently being conducted along Line 8. The electronic boards are scheduled to put into operation in this coming May. When the time comes, all of the bus stations along the test route will be equipped with electronic displays that clarify for passengers the current location and the anticipated time of the buses.

Of course, for people that use cell phones, the greatest of benefits can not surpass full coverage of free WIFI aboard all public transport vehicles, a service that will start immediately this April.

In the aspect of establishing peaceful transport, the Lhasa government is doing its best. This year, Lhasa will invest 12 million yuan (1.9 million US dollars) to construct a smart traffic coordination and control center.

This platform will both have vehicle coordination, information distribution, service inquiries, safety supervision and other functions and it will be seamlessly integrated with police, tourism and other smart card ports to ensure traffic safety.

Zhiqiang Du also said “This system will go into operations this May, and it will be the first comprehensive smart traffic coordination and control platform in the entire region.”
