Tibetan medicine culture displayed in Lhasa

The Menzikang(Tibetan Medicine and Calculation College) Tibetan medicine cultural exhibition was opened at the Peoples Art Center (Intangible Cultural Heritage Preservation Center) of the Tibet Autonomous Region recently.

The exhibition focuses on introducing the 100-year development of Menzikang and concentrates on the Tibetan medicine Intangible Cultural Heritage Project, therein realizing the promotion of traditional Tibetan Medicine from many aspects including “Mantang”, the Tibetan medicine propcessing techniques, the Rinchen RanNaSangPei medicine production technique, the Tibetan astronomical calendar, and the Tibetan medicine Nectar blessing Ritual etc.

There over 20 inheritors (an expert team) conducting the interpretation using more than 300 precious cultural relics, over 1000 historical pictures, related documents numbering to more than 200,000 characters, over 200 kinds of medical samples, over 100 types of Tibetan medicine as well as a 15-minute visual documentary, therein multi-dimensionally promoting the Tibetan medicine tradition of “inheriting and creating, benefiting the world and helping people” which has been followed by the 100-year Menzikang in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the college.

One of the organizers of the exhibition Lhapa Tsering said: “Sometimes, we define too narrowly what Tibetan Medicine is and regard it too mysteriously. Actually, Tibetan Medicine is a natural science that keeps people healthy and treats different kinds of diseases, which has been developed and mastered by the Tibetan people during the process of interacting with nature as well as fighting with different kinds of diseases. The purpose of this exhibition is to let all of the people take part in the process of popularizing the real essence of Tibetan Medicine.”
