Tibetan operatic play features in Chengdu
The Sichuan opera Down of the Dust featured on stage at the Chengdu campus of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Wenjiang district on April 19.
The opera is adapted from the novel bearing the same name, written by Tibetan writer A Lai. It depicts the decline and fall of the system of appointing national ethnic groups' hereditary headmen in the Tibetan region before the foundation of People’s Republic of China.
The opera was first staged on March 27, 2014. As of April this year, the play has been performed for more than 100 times to over 100,000 people.
