The Tibetan opera “Drolwa Sangmo” was put on show at the Tibet Opera Troupe theater in Lhasa on April 6, Tibet Business News reported.

“Drolwa Sangmo” is one of the eight major traditional Tibetan operas adapted from a folk tale. It tells the story of King Geleg Wangbo meeting the celestial maiden Drolwa Sangmo, falling in love with her and bringing her back to his palace. Drolwa Sangmo gave birth to a son and a daughter, and lived happily with the king. But their happy life was discovered by Semo Langguo, servant to Queen Hajang Dumo, and the queen became very jealous. The queen designed a plan to persecute and banish Drolwa Sangmo, poisoned the king, and also intended to kill Drolwa Sangmo’s son and daughter. Persecuted by the queen, the brother and sister endured many hardships.

“Drolwa Sangmo” has been approved as a 2015 National Endowment Arts project, which has already received funding of 2 million yuan from the National Arts Fund. The opera will then give tour performances in 40 cities across the country upon requirements. Apart from Beijing, it will be shown in Xi’an, Chengdu and other locations respectively.
