When to visit Tibet? Umm...Many times I have been asked when is the best time to visit Tibet? Before they asked me, they should have searched a lot information about Tibet's weather and climate condition via internet, however, different websites tell different things and suggestions.

Usually, people are suggested that the best time to visit Tibet is from April to October.

Lhasa

The whole year around is the best time to visit Lhasa. Especially during the winter season, Lhasa is always sunny, with blue and clear sky. The local people all come to Lhasa to pay pilgrimage, and you will have the chance to feel the real and authentic Tibetan culture.

Namtso Lake

Namtso Lake, the highest saltwater lake in the world, is regarded as the nearest place to heaven. You need to cross a mountain pass as high as 5,100 meters when accessing to Namtso Lake, so the road is usually closed from December to March due to the harsh weather. It's best to visit Namtso Lake from April to the first ten-day period of October.

Shigatse

The whole year around is the best time to visit Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet, about 200 km with 6 hours driving from Lhasa.

Mt. Qomolangma Base Camp

Most of tourists get the information that the best time to visit Mt. Qomolangma Base Camp is May and October, when it is the dry season with most sunny days, and having the most opportunities to see the Mt. Qomolangma clearly.

However, here I want to tell you that actually November and December are also the ideal time to visit the base camp, when it is also the dry season, with more sunny days than May and October.

Mt. Kailash

The best time to visit Mt. Kailash is from May to October when it’s warmer. November is still good with the best views but being a little cold.

Nyingchi

Nyingchi is located in the eastern part of Tibet with lower altitude, covered by dense forest and beautiful mountains and villages. Summer and autumn are the best seasons to visit Nyingchi when you will see a colorful Nyingchi.

Nagqu

Nagqu is famous for its vast grassland, and most of tourists prefer to visit Nagqu during its horse-riding festival, which is usually hold in July or August.

Chamdo

Chamdo is the traditional Kham region, and the people here is referred to as Khampa, famous for its unique and fascinating Khampa culture.

Generally, Chamdo enjoys a warm and humid summer as well as a windy dry winter and spring. The best time to visit Chamdo is from April to May, or September to October.
