Travel Guide for Tibet Tour in 2016 (I)
Lofty snow-capped mountains along Himalayan range, turquoise scared lakes, running Tibetan antelopes on boundless Qiangtang Prairie, devout Tibetan pilgrims prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple, salty Butter tea, fluttering prayer flags, unknown Buddhist chant, etc. Tibet never fails to allure global travelers to revisit her and explore more in this holy place.
Jan, enjoy some sunbathing in Lhasa street
Due to the high altitude, Lhasa (3650m) is blessed with dazzling sunlight all year round. The chilly temperature at night makes warm sunshine so valuable during the daytime. Tourists can stroll along Barkhor Street while enjoying the cozy sunshine. Or having a cup of sweet tea in Canggu Temple and Guangming teahouse is also a great option.
Feb, experience both Tibetan New Year and Chinese New Year in Lhasa
February is bound to be a month of celebration since Chinese New Year (Feb,8, 2016) and Tibetan New Year, also known as Losar Festival (Feb,9,2016) are expected to be celebrated in Lhasa.
Meanwhile, Feb, 13th is also an auspicious day on Tibetan calendar and tourists will have a chance to see well-dressed Tibetans, young and old, and exotic parades and massive turnout for celebration and pray in Jokhang Temple. It is a rare chance to witness how two most important festivals are observed in Lhasa.
March, view fully-blossomed peach trees in Nyingtri
March is the best season to enjoy the fully-blossomed peach trees in Nyingtri. The massive peach trees in full blossom are flanked by stunning snow-capped mountains in ravine. Pink flowers, together with deep-blue sky and charming pastoral scene make Nyingtri a hot attraction for photographers in March.
(Travel Tips: Due to the political issues, from Feb,22nd to March Tibet is not available to foreign tourists. And foreign tourists can wait till early April to visit Tibet. Chinese tourists are not affected.)
April, Visit sacred Namtso Lake
April is the time when the frozen Namtso begins to melt after bitterly-cold winter. The floating ice on the lake and flying seagull above the lake attracts ceaseless flow of world-wide visitors. Tourists can walk with Tibetan pilgrims to circle this holy lake and scale the Tashi Island at the lakeside to have a panoramic view of this spectacular fresh water lake.
May, Enjoy the breeze in Lhoka
Lhoka prefecture is situated to the south of the Gangdisi and the Nyanchen Tanglha ranges. It connects Lhasa in the north and Nyingtri in the east. In May, the moist air current from Indian ocean moves over Himalayas and reaches plains of Tibet.
Showered by this air current, vegetation and farmland along Yarlung Tsangpo river of Tibet take on a vibrant look. Tourists can visit Yumbu Lhakhang and Samye Monastery and Turquoise Yamdroklake to get a rough idea of Lhoka, the cradle of Tibetan civilization.
June, Join Lingka festival in Shigatse
Lingka festival kicks off on June, 1st and is expected to last for a week. Lingka literally means picnic and during the Lingka festival, Tibetans will invite their relatives and friends and sit together inside the tent, drinking beers, eating snacks, playing pokers, etc. Occasionally, they will invite other families for a joyful dance. Tourists can experience the recreational part of Tibetans'life.
