Traffic control over road to Mt. Qomolangma removed
According to the Dingri county government in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, the traffic control over Qusum Road which links 318 National Highway with Mt. Qomolangma Base Camp has been lifted from Aug. 20, 2015.
From then on, all vehicles and travelers bound for Mt. Qomolangma Base Camp do not have to detour to reach the destination.
Meanwhile, to ensure the safety of all travelers, please follow the current traffic rules and temporary regulations as the traffic security facilities are still under construction.
Background
The renovation project of Qusum Road which is 96 kilometers long started from early 2014, with a total investment of 420 million yuan (67.7 million US dollars). Before its completion, all vehicles had been forbidden to enter and had to make a detour to reach Mt. Qomolangma Base Camp.
