The Nyingchi Airport which started operation makes the journey to south Tibet's Nyingchi Prefecture much easier. The airport receives several flights from Chengdu, Sichuan Provinces every week. Paved roads extending from Lhasa to Nyingchi enable tourists to travel by car which can be rented in Bayi Town of Nyingchi.
The fare for a mini-bus ride is around 200 yuan per day while an off-road vehicle ride is much more expensive. However, it costs less than usual to visit by air or by train in March.
One option for tourists is to fly to Lhasa and then take the bus to Nyingchi. The shuttle bus leaves at 8:00 am every day from Lhasa to Nyingchi about 633 kilometers away. A one-way ticket is priced at 155 yuan per person.
With a relatively lower altitude, the climate in Nyingchi is mild, so visitors don't have to worry about the altitude sickness.
Food
In addition to regular food like barley wine, Tsampa and butter tea, Nyingchi also offers typical ethnic minority foods such as roasted mice by Lhoba ethnic group, which usually frightens guests.
Nyingchi's highland fish tastes delicious during the peach blossom season. Restaurants along streets in Bayi Town are usually thronged with epicurean tourists.
