Fourteen Chinese amateur mountaineers set out from Lhasa on April 11, heading towards base camp of Mt. Qomolangma in Tingri County, Tibet, and they plan to summit Mt. Qomolangma from the North Slope.

No one summited Mt. Qomolangma last year due to the Nepal earthquake.

Sendrup, president of the Tibet Yala Xiangbo Mountaineering Adventure Company in charge of this expedition, said that this group of mountaineers has all summited mountains over 8,000 meters high, and are strong enough to summit Mt. Qomolangma.

According to reports, this year’s spring mountaineering season in Tibet has recently begun, and will continue until the beginning of June. There will be hundreds of national and international climbers who will enter Tibet to go mountaineering, including mountains with summits above 8,000 meters such as Mt. Qomolangma, Mt. Cho Oyu, and Mt. Shishapangma.

Tibet is rich in high mountain resources, and has five mountains with peaks above 8,000 meters, including Mt. Qomolangma.
