22-year-old girl becomes first Tibetan Olympic athlete

The 22-year-old Tibetan girl is all set to walk a path which no Tibetan has ever taken before. Come August 11, Choeyang, will become the first ever Tibetan athlete to take part in the Olympics in Chinese history.
Born in Tsochang in the Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, China, Choeyang will debut at the ongoing London Olympics in the 20 km Women's Race Walking event on August 11.
In this year's IAAF Race Walking Challenge held in Taicang, Jiangsu Province, She won the bronze medal of the 20 km walk race with 1:27:04, which made her not only get the tickets to enter the London Olympic Games, but also become the first Tibetan athletes to enter the Olympic stadium in the Chinese history.
Currently ranked 10th in the world, Choeyang will be competing with some of the biggest names in the sports. With the World Record standing at 1:25:08 and the Olympics Record at 1:26:31, Choeyang is in walking distance of securing a podium finish.
Born on November 11, 1990, the Tibetan walking wonder began race walking in 2008. Two years later, she was selected in the national team. She has a good performance in several worldwide sport competitions, including the 2011 IAAF Race Walking Challenge cum, the 13th World Championships in Athletics and the 12th Chinese National Games.
The 20 km race walk event will begin at 17:00 hrs (London local time) on August 11. The athletes will begin the race from The Mall and go around the Queen Victoria Memorial in London, completing 10 laps of the 2km course.
