The Tsakha Salt Lake tourism zone in Qinghai Province, known as “Mirror in the Sky,” opened on June 1 after seven-plus months of intensive construction, Xinhua reported

The Tsakha Salt Lake tourism zone is located in Tsakha Township, Haixi Mongol-Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai. At the intersection of National Road 109 and 315, the village is a crucial stop on the ancient Silk Road. The village sits 298 km east of Xining and 200 km west of Delingha. The area is the eastern gate of Qaidam Basin, a place every merchant and tourist must cross coming into Xinjiang and Tibet.

There have been 1.3 million tourists in the tourism region in 2015, the third area to have over one million visitors in Qinghai Province. Recently, the zone began a seven-month-long reconstruction and upgrade process to improve its quality and infrastructure. Newly added features include a large parking lot, a tourism information center, a tour guide station, and other facilities. It is now a tourism zone with a beautiful environment, excellent services, and high-level accommodations.

The Tsakha Salt Lake tourism zone was renovated according to 5A national level standards. The central area features the Mirror in the Sky Plaza, where tourists can try the monorail, cruises, scooters, and sight-seeing pavilions, etc., to experience all of the salt lake. The area is well-known for its robust commerce and tourism in Qinghai Province and all over the world. It was one of the “55 Places You Must Visit” in National Geographic Magazine.

Wang Jingzhai, deputy governor of Haixi Mongol-Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, said that the numerous glaciers, snowy mountains, unique sights, and historical ruins in Haixi are all parts of the remarkable Qaidam Basin. The yardangs, the Kunlun Mountains, Tsakha Salt Lake, Hala Lake, etc., make the region ideal for a road trip vacation.

“The unique geography and resources in Tsakha Salt Lake make it a must-see in Haixi Prefecture. Its development will lead to the growth of tourism all over Haixi.” Said Wang.
