More than 560,000 tourists expected to visit Tibet in the first quarter

Since entering April, along with the warmer temperatures on the plateau, the curtain on Tibet’s peak travel season has opened. It is clear from looking at the scenes of Lhasa’s Barkhor Street, Potala Square, Norbulingka, and other sites that the number of tourists has increased.

Reporters learned from the Tibet Autonomous Region Tourism Development Committee that more than 560,000 tourists are expected to visit Tibet during the first quarter of this year, an increase of 20.8 percent; this will mean tourism revenue of 670 million yuan, an increase of 29.7 percent.

The first quarter coincides with the Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival. In order to allow visitors to experiences Tibetan culture, Tibet’s major tour companies promoted Tibetan New Year travel routes, visiting Tibetan people’s homes, and so on. This series of events accelerates the boost to Tibet’s winter tourism market.

At the moment, visitors to the Jokhang temple, the travel “barometers”, have gradually increased. All the streets of Barkhor are bustling with a superb collection of folk products that attract tourists who have come from all over the world, and tour companies at the foot of Potala Palace were giving tours to many visitors.
