"Medog will be a renowned tourism county, no more a backwater." Tashi, official magistrate of Medog County tells us in a confident tongue.

Medog is the only county in China that is not highway-accessible. Located in the Southeast of East Tibetan Plateau, Nyingchi region, Medog has eight townships, 46 villages. More than 11,000 people live here, among which 80% are Moinba ethnic minority and Lhoba ethnic group, the rest are Han, Tibetans and other groups.

However, it is the shut-away and underdeveloped environment that boosts favorable climate and embraces rich natural resources.

Modog has a typical sub-tropical climate, which is perfect for tourism. In this virginal place, more than 3,000 kinds of national protected plants and animals find their home.

When the Medog Highway is officially brought into service, Medog will receive more tourists. By then, tourism will be the pillar industry and generate more for the people.

The overall cut-through of Galung La Tunnel makes Medog a more convenient place for both the insiders and the outsiders. “Highway” is not a dream any more. What’s more, it guarantees better communication and further development.

"There are a lot you can do to enjoy yourselves, for example, have a taste of the stewed home chicken, a famous native flavor, which is nourishing and smells good. Experience the Moinba and Lhoba minority culture, including the costume, cuisine, furniture, and house construction. While developing, we will spare no efforts on the protection and inheritage of the Moinba and Lhoba minority culture. At any time we will eye sustainable development as our top priority. Medog tourism, only by the ways of sustainable development, can go further and better." Tashi says.

"We are arranging the tour guide, such reception works" Tashi says. "We will set up a service center, which will offer more job opportunities for people in both urban and rural areas. Jobs such as driving the tourist between the hotel and the scenic spots, guiding etc. In the suburb, we will set up farm households to help farmers earn more."
