During the Shoton Festival, the Tibetan opera competition in Norbulingka Park in Lhasa has attracted many Tibetans, as well as domestic and international tourists to the show.

Tibetan Opera has a history of more than 600 years, which is 400 years earlier than Peking Opera; it has been called a “living fossil” of Tibetan culture. In 2009, Tibetan Opera was added to UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

On September 3rd, performers of the Namkar Tibetan Opera Troupe from Gurum County of Doilungdêqên District are ready to start the show.
