Starting from August 20th, the eastern Tibet “electric-power sky road”- the Tibet section of the Sichuan-Tibet network project – began to be under the first one-month period of mechanical examination ever since the network was opened to public.

This will increase the safety and reliability of the operation of the Sichuan-Tibet network project, therein establishing a firm safety foundation of the electric network of eastern Tibet’s “exporting electric power from Tibet” as well as of the Chamdo electric network.

The Sichuan-Tibet network project with a total investment of 6.63 billion RMB is the electric power transmission and distribution project which so far has been the most difficult one to be built worldwide.

Since the project started to be in use, the isolated grids that lasted for a long time in the Chamdo area of Tibet have been absolutely shut down, therein totally resolving the problem of serious lack of electricity in the Chamdo City thus it has played an important role in the socio-economic development and life-standard improvement of the people in the Chamdo City.

Up until August 19th, the Sichuan-Tibet network project has input 767 million kilowatt hours into the Chamdo power grids and output 361 million kilowatt hours into the Sichuan power grids, therein reaching the exchange amount of 1.13 billion kilowatt hours.

The full mechanical examination on the Tibet section of the Sichuan-Tibet network project will focus on one 500-kilovolt transformer station, two 220-kilovolt transformer stations, two 500-kilovolt transmission lines and five 220-kilovolt transmission lines: examining, experimenting, solving problems of the devices, thereby improving the quality of the important transmission and distribution devices.

Due to the complexity and large scale of this mechanical examination: in a vast area with many spots, a huge amount of workload as well as a harsh working environment (especially the heavy rain at the work site of the 500-kilovolt Tanglan transformer line making many road sections damaged), the State Grid Tibet Electric Power Co., Ltd. has made  good preparations and organization­ including investigating beforehand and building an annual examination plan.

So far, the State Grid Tibet Electric Power Co., Ltd has organized beforehand different teams separately taking charge in opening and repairing an over-30-kilometer public road from Mangkam to Chagyab as well as repairing 180 kilometers of public road in total.

At the same time, the Sichuan-Tibet network project is making the first step in approaching construction of the Tibet united grid. By the end of the 13th Five-year Plan, Tibet will have finished building mainly 500-kilovolt net braces as well as the Tibet united grids developed by the power grid companies at all levels.

Apart from this, Tibet will realize  being fully connected to the power network with areas including central Tibet, Chamdo and Ngari, therein making a great contribution to exporting clean energy from Tibet while also optimizing the energy structure in Tibet.
