On Apr. 5, the 1st China Tibetan Tea Culture Week was opened in the China Tibetan Tea Village of Duoying Township, Yucheng District of Ya’an City, Sichuan Province, Sichuan Daily reported.

The total square area of the tea gardens in the Yucheng District numbers to 20,000 hectares with 16 leading enterprises, producing annual yields of more than 20,000 tons with annual value of production accounting for 671 million yuan (108.2 million US dollars), therein driving the increase of average income per capita of over 50,000 tea-planting households up to 3,000 yuan (483.9 US dollars). Yucheng District is also the origin of Tibetan tea which has thousands of years of history; it is also the starting point of the Sichuan-Tibet section along the Ancient Tea Horse Road.

Starting from the time when Wencheng Princess brought tea leaves entering Tibet to establish the relations with the Tibetan people up until now, the Tibetan tea history has experienced over 1,300 years of cultural and historical precipitation. Amongst which, the “Auspicious Tibetan Tea” brand has already gained the China well-known mark, and the traditional technology of tea making of the Ya’an Tibetan Tea (Nanlubian Tea) has been listed into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage.

The Chins Tibetan Tea Village is located at the Duoying Township which is the first beautiful town along 318 national highway (it is also located at the first posthouse on the Ancient Tea Horse Road). The village was included into the cultural industry project carried out during the general reconstruction after the Lushan Earthquake happened; it is being constructed as a 4A level scenic spot. The China Tibetan Tea Village will periodically be constructed into a comprehensive complex composed of sightseeing scenic spots, art and healthcare experience areas and a high-end dwelling resort area “three-functional complex”.

Amongst the “three-functional complex”, the first period project (the core area) was completed in this January and has been put in use, including a World Tea Garden, a Tibetan Tea Culture Museum, a Tibetan Tea Sample and Shopping Area, a Tibetan-tea-themed Hotel as well as special blocks.

The Tibetan Tea Culture Museum, with the theme of “Home of Panda, Home of World Tea”, via various methods such as real articles displaying, scene restoration, multi-media technology and song and dance performances, comprehensively reveals the legends of the Ancient Tea Horse Road and the thousand-year Tibetan tea. The World Tea Garden, based on the concept of “Sights everywhere, Scenes at every step”, reflects intensively 106 tea species from China and abroad.
