With the extension of the electrical network to the most remote place, Gandeng Township of Metok County, Metok has finally achieved full coverage by the power grid, People’s Daily reported.

The Huaneng Group has been responsible for building the power grid in Medok County since October 2012. Before they came, the county had an installed power capacity of only 0.1 kilowatts per capita. In winter, the local small hydropower station could only produce 300 kilowatts of power. There was a large gap between supply and demand, and it was unstable with frequent blackouts. After the 5,000-kilowatt Yarang Hydropower Station was put into operation, Metok’s per capita installed power capacity increased four times, thoroughly solving the region’s power shortage.

Lu Daohui, director of the Huaneng Metok Power Company, said that in the more than three years he has been working in Medog County, it is hard to imagine the difficulties they faced. Before the highway was built, it would take three or four days for employees to walk into the county. While also carrying out construction under extremely difficult conditions, the cost of constructing electric power is at least four times more than in the inland.

In addition to achieving electricity for all villages, a comprehensive rural power network reform project is also underway.
