1,700 Tibetan students attending Tibetan Classes in Shanghai

Dawa Butri, a Tibetan student at Jinyuan High School in Shanghai, is now at home for the Lunar New Year. "I like studying and living in Shanghai, my parents aren't worried about me," she said.

From Shigatse of Tibet, Dawa Butri is now a tenth grade student attending Tibetan Classes in Shanghai.  

Like Dawa Butri, many Tibetan students of 10th and 11th grade at Jinyuan High School are at home, while 12th graders are staying at school in preparation for the upcoming college entrance exams.    

Since 1985, Shanghai has hosted Tibetan students in its secondary schools, and the city has continued to expand the program and improve education quality. 

Currently, over 1,700 Tibetan students are enrolled by Gongkang Middle School, Zhufeng Middle School, High School affiliated to Fudan University, Fuxing High School, Jinyuan High School, Xinzhong High School and Fudan Middle School.  

The above mentioned Jinyuan High School has begun to enroll Tibetan students since 2002, with 21 students enrolled in 2005, and over 200 students by 2016. All of the graduates have entered colleges and universities.
