Potala Palace mural copy thangkas to be exhibited

The Tibetan thangka inheritor and the Potala Palace mural restorationist Lozang Sidar is about to exhibit the thangka he made a copy of over an 8 year period at the Tibet museum and he will donate it to the Potala Palace.

According to what was understood, Lozang Sidar was born into a Miansa school thangka household in the Lhaze county of Shigatse. He is a 10th generation inheritor of the tradition and is the only national level inheritor. Other than this, Lozang Sidar is also engages in mural restoration work and participated in the Tashilhunpo Monastery 5th to 9th Panchen dhyana memorial pagoda mural production work amongst other efforts. In 2005, Lozang Sidar received an invitation from the Potala management office and started to work on the copy and restoration work of the Potala Palace Lunlang Palace murals over an 8 year period.

This copy of the thangka was not only for future use as a copy of the original murals in the Potala Palace as well as an sample to make reference of for other monasteries, it has also become an important object of reference in the research of mural techniques. It is possible to say that these 18 thangkas have extremely high historical artistic value, and the economic value is even more undeniable.
