The Four-Volume Medical Code opened to public via Thangkas

Recently, “The Four-Volume Medical Code Mantang Long Volume –Nyangbon Thangka Art Inheritance Achievement Exhibition” was opened at the China National Museum.

There are 80 Mantang long volumes in the Four-Volume Medical Code displayed in the exhibition, these volumes are at the moment the largest versions in regards of both single width and overall size (80 meters long). The volumes were completed within 3 years by 30 students under the guide of Nyangbon, the representative inheritor of Regong Art belonging to state-level intangible heritage project as well as the master of China’s industrial arts. 

With 6487 paintings, the exhibition had 156 chapters in the Four-Volume Medical Code “translated” into secular and easy-to-understand chained paintings. Amongst which not only the mysterious Tibetan medicine knowledge but also contents regarding lifestyle, health preservation, psychological treatment as well as morality in medicine practice play a very important role in modern life orientation.

After this exhibition, the masterpiece of the Four-Volume Medical Code Mantang Long Volume will be kept in the Tibetan National Museum which will become the only museum outside of Tibet that collects a complete version.
