On the 7th of July (the 3rd day of the 3rd month of Tibetan calendar), the Ngabo Village in the Kongpo Gyamda County of the Tibet Autonomous Region celebrated the Wangguo Festival. “Wangguo” means “circling around the field” in Tibetan language. Since the early morning, more than 40 villagers, dressing in splendid Tibetan attires with scriptures on the shoulders, were circling around the harvesting field and beating drums and gongs. They were singing the old harvest folk songs and showing their gratitude to Heaven for giving them seasonable weather for crop raising.

It was reported that, there are 91 households in the Ngabo Village and 4200 acres of farming fields. The average income per capita during the last year was 17000 RMB. “Before, the harvest was done by yaks or human labors. Nowadays, the farming is all done by seeding-machines and the government gives subsidies to farmers to buy tractors. When the harvesting season comes, we use the reaping machine collectively bought by the whole village, it takes only two or three days to get everything done.” After working hard for half of a year, the villagers were celebrating the Wangguo Festival happily. After the festival, the busy fall harvest will start very soon.
