Shoton Festival will be held from September 1 – 7 this year

It has been decided that the Lhasa Shoton Festival this year will be held from September 1 through 7, Tibet Business reported.

The Lhasa Shoton Festival Office is currently seeking funding and doing preparatory work before the festival.

As a well-known, traditional Tibetan cultural festival, the Lhasa Shoton Festival has been included into the national intangible cultural heritage list. The festival’s popularity and influence continues to expand nationally and internationally, becoming an image of Lhasa City and an important platform and window for attracting visitors and investment.

The 2015 Lhasa Shoton Festival retained the traditional opening ceremony, unveiling of the giant Thangka, Tibetan Opera performances, Thangka art exhibition, and other events. It also held the Lhasa-Namtso International Hiking Event, the second Symposium on Tibetan music, the Second Lhasa “Ticai Cup” Football Tournament, a promotional seminar for the Pure Land Health Industry Investment Promotion Program, and other activities. According to statements from the 2015 Lhasa Shoton Festival News Conference, starting from 2015, the “Ticai Cup” Football Tournament will be held every year during the period of Shoton Festival.
