The multimedia epic drama “Common Homeland” was premiered on Jan. 25 in Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, China Tibet News reported.

Based on real historical events, the drama tells the story that the corrupt court of the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911)was too weak to resist the British invasion during the First Opium War (1840 -1842) breaking out in 1840 and resulting in the occupation of Hong Kong by Britain. At the critical time, two thousand Tibetan heroic and patriotic soldiers of the Sixth Regiment of the Tibetan army, at the edict of the Qing emperors, rushed to join in the Qing army in Ningbo, a southeastern coastal city of China, to resist the invasion and defend the common homeland. Unfortunately, all of them died due to the backward weaponry. The epic eulogizes national unity and cohesion of the Chinese strength.

The most important part of the epic is that Emperor Qianlong(1711-1799) had the Tibetan corps established, and Emperor Daoguang(1782-1850) assembled them to take part in the military operations against the British army. It is further proved, from this military and national defense perspective for the first time, that Tibet is a member of the great family of the Chinese nation.

The multimedia choreography is a highlight of the drama. The stage equipments and multimedia images combined have enhanced the visual impact.

According to the staff members of the drama troupe, the drama was staged in Beijing in September 2015, which was highly appreciated by the audiences from all walks of life. This performance is planned to be given for three times in Lhasa from Jan. 25-27, which has moved large numbers of audiences.
