This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Tibet autonomous region, so the China Art Museum in the Pudong New District of Shanghai put on an exhibition of Tibetan culture, with the theme "Treasures from a Snowy Land", recently, Pudong Times reported on Nov. 12.

The exhibition is actually a part of this year's China Shanghai International Arts Festival's "Tibetan Culture Week", with 120 items from the Potala Palace, Norbulingka Summer Palace and Tibet Museum, to show the essence of Tibetan culture and arts that date back more than 1,000 years.

Buddhism is an important part of traditional Tibetan culture, so, the articles on display include more than 10 thangkas, a religious painting on cotton or silk that is a first-class relic, as well as Buddhist statues, and related musical instruments. With wide-ranging themes including religious culture, popular customs, natural phenomenon, the thangka also enjoyed a reputation as a "Tibetan Encyclopedia".

There is also a statue of Srongtsen Gampo, the head of the Tibetan regime in ancient China, who married Princess Wencheng during the reign of Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). The statue is a masterpiece of Tibetan sculpture.

The exhibition will run to Nov 26.
