Ecuador's Ambassador to China has offered his country's gratitude for China's help in the aftermath of the massive earthquake which hit the South American country last month.

Ambassador Jose Borja says his government is impressed by the quick reaction from the Chinese government.

"Chinese President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed their sympathies to our people immediately after the disaster hit. The day after the earthquake, more than 90 Chinese companies in Ecuador began sending aid equipment and items to the affected areas."

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador on April 16th.

It left over 660 people dead, and 20 still officially listed as missing.

Chinese authorities have already provided over 2-million US dollars in donations.
