Chinese travel agencies have suspended all organized trips to Kyushu, Japan, following two powerful earthquakes.

They have also offered a full refund for travelers who want to cancel already booked tours to the southwestern island, and warned tourists to avoid visiting there for the time being.

Online travel operator Ctrip has informed tour guides to cancel stops including Kumamoto and make proper adjustment on scheduled tours.

Another online travel agency Tuniu says a free cancellation policy applies to hotel orders in Kumamoto between April 16 and 22.

China Southern Airlines and Air China have announced they will offer full refunds or free change of date on air tickets from China to Fukuoka scheduled from April 15 to the end of the month.

So far, 20 Chinese tourists visiting Kumamoto have been rescued by helicopter, after the Chinese Consul-General's office in nearby Fukuoka negotiated with Japanese authorities.
