Mountaineer-musician releases album top of Mt. Qomolangma
Nepali youth Tashi Lakpa Sherpa has reached the summit of Mt. Qomolangma thrice so far, and has set a different world record on each occasion, local media reported Wednesday.
According to a leading website, eKantipur.com report, Tashi became the youngest climber without oxygen in the world when he first climbed Qomolangma on May 16, 2004.
His second ascent on May 31, 2005 was also without oxygen, and that time he created another record by releasing a new book "Mero Desh" (My country) atop the highest point in the world.
Recently, Tashi launched his first musical album entitled "Sherpini Kanchhi" (Sherpa girl) at the summit on May 17, 2007, which he says is the first musical album to be released in such a manner.
The album has a total of eight Nepali folk-pop songs featuring vocals by some Nepali musicians. On his part, Tashi has written and composed all the songs and also lent his voice in two songs in the album.
Tashi had attempted his third ascent on Mt. Qomolangma from China's Tibetan side on May 16, 2006, but he had to retreat from an altitude of 8,800 meters due to the lack of the oxygen.
Tashi, 21, told reporters that he wanted to create new records from the beginning and the launch of his new album on the summit is also a part of his long cherished dream.
"I feel happy to be recognized as a climber because it's a very difficult job," says the young mountaineering guide-cum-musician, "but I also want to be known as a musician."
