Tibetan althletes achieved best results in National Disabled Games
Tibetan athletes was reported to have accomplished a satisfying results by ranking 8th in the half-Marathon competition and 6th in the 4×4 team race relay in the 8th Chinese National Games for the Disabled opened on Oct. 11.
This is also the best accomplishment Tibet has ever got in this kind of competition China has held.
According to information form the Sports Bureau of Tibet, all athletes from Tibet strived hard during the game in the spirit of perseverance and tenacity and joined in various competitions such as the track and field event, wrestling and shooting, with the young Sonam Drolma securing the 8th position in the half-Marathon competition and men's team securing the 6th position in the 4×4 team race relay.
Sonam Drolma was born in 1989 and was a student from the special education school in Lhasa, capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region. When asked about her moods after the race, she said excitedly, "I will spend more time and efforts in training and strive for a better grade in the next competition".
The 8th Chinese National Games for the Disabled was another comprehensive sports competition for the handicapped after the Beijing Paralympics Games and the Guangzhou Para-Olympics. It set a total of 21 sports items for contest such as track and field, swimming, wrestling, Ping pang and shooting.
Altogether 16 athletes from Tibet joined in the Game after a-four-month training.
In order to encourage the active participation of athletes in sports activities and promote the idea of "communication and mutual study in a people-oriented and athletes-centered manner", Tibet formed a delegation led by Dekyi, vice president of Tibetan People's Political Consultative Conference and Kelsang Yudron, vice secretary of Tibetan People's Political Consultative Conference to join in this game.
The delegation was granted a "Sports Moral Award" by the organizing committee of the game.
