Various activities have been held to celebrate the upcoming first anniversary of "Serfs' Emancipation Day", which falls on March 28. Tibetan legislators approved a bill on January 19, 2009 to designate March 28 as the Serfs Emancipation Day to commemorate the emancipation of millions of serfs and slaves in Tibet.
