Self-immolation inciters desperate to woo western fund: Scholars

Two scholars from the Peking University accused the overseas Tibetan splittist leaders of "political vultures",who live on dead bodies of the self-immolators, disclosing that the orchestrated self-immolations in China's Tibet-inhabited areas is their desperate way to win financial support from the "anti-China camps".

In December 2012, Xinhua and CCTV released China's breaking the plotted self-immolation cases in southwest China's Sichuan Province, which had aroused worldwide attention and triggered a series of heated discussions on the issue.

The China Tibet Online had an interview with Zhang Zhirong and his student Wang Yuqing from Taiwan, who both are experts in Tibetology and international politics from the Peking University. They referred to the Tibetan "government-in-exile" as "political vulture" and their instigating self-immolation acts as "desperate hyping".

Orchestrating self-immolations is a desperate hype

Zhang pointed out that the Tibetan separatists instigated and hyped self-immolations out of their desperation for the overseas anti-China camp's attention and financial support.

He added that most of the exiled Tibetans held an international refugee identity, which could hardly guarantee them any social welfare or insurance as ordinary citizens of any country, not to mention those Tibetans living in China. The international refugee identity was the biggest obstacle for the abroad survival of exiled Tibetans.

The current post-14th Dalai lama era sees serious political conflicts among different factions of the exiled group based in Dharamsala. When the 14th Dalai Lama passed away, their religious aim would lose ground and their hyping room would shrink, which would lead to less attention and financial support from their Western masters, according to Zhang.

"It's really evil and dirty that they incited innocent poor young Tibetans from farmers and herdsmen's families with 400,000 rupees as compensation to kill themselves by such cruel means."Zhang said.

Wang Yuqing, a Taiwan scholar in East Asian studies from York University in Canada argued, "If self-immolation was an honorable Buddhist practice as they (the Tibetan separatists) advertised, why don't they (the 'exiled government' officials) ask their families to commit suicide by fire?"

Wang would rather see the issue from the perspective of basic morals, emphasizing that people manipulating others to commit self-immolations for their own interest are not eligible to talk about human rights.

In order to continue begging for funds from the Western anti-China camp, Dharamsala forged new slogans as "Chinese oppression" by instigating self-immolation "protests" to replace the "religious oppression" , which has seriously violated the universal value.

However, the despicable act has not brought any interests for their fellow Tibetans both in China and in exile. On the contrary, it will not be accepted by the world.

According to Zhang Zhirong, 43-year-old leader of the "exiled Tibetan government" has lived and studied in the US for 15 years and his temperament looked everywhere like an American. How come a person who has never been to Tibet claims to be the representative for Tibetans?

This alleged "representative of Tibetans" explained in one of his papers published on the Harvard Law Review in 2002 that many of his words like "Tibet Independence" were "purposely coined to cater to and win over the extremists" so that it could be easier for him to pacify them, according to source. His political ambition and cheap shots are stark naked.

"They are like peevish babies, yearning for candies by all means and inciting self-immolation is the lamest." Wang Yuqing said.

The future road for secessionist is a dead end

In December 2012, the Sichuan Police has successfully uncovered orchestrated self-immolation cases by Tibetan separatist clique and arrested two main suspects. This has provoked a heating reproach towards the 14th Dalai Lama from the media and netizens overseas.

According to a recent poll on an online British political forum, netizens voiced their opposing views towards the 14th Dalai Lama such as "He is a murderer and turning this religion into a cult by encouraging self-immolations". Some even ask the pro-"Tibet independence" camp to "get over it" calling their slogan as "petty and irrelevant".

It is safe to say that the Tibetan splittist group losing ground. On the other hand, it also seems to be acknowledged worldly that the 14th Dalai Lama's secessionist thought is not given up as he claimed.

"His (the 14th Dalai Lama) refusal to take a Chinese passport to come to China suffice to prove this. Let me give you an example: if an American religious leader refused to use the American passport while traveling back home, how would the US government say? If a Canadian parish leader claimed independence, what would the Canadian government react? If the 14th Dalai Lama really wants to talk with the Chinese government, why wouldn't he take a Chinese passport to come back?" Wang said, stressing that the Chinese people and government's protest is absolutely reasonable.

Zhang added, "The 14th Dalai Lama and his exiled Tibetan government have been playing a role of a victim questing for 'religious freedom'. However, the Chinese government has long put in the national Constitution that the country protects its citizens' freedom to religious belief, but never guarantees the right to use religion as a gimmick to harm the people and destabilize the hard-won economic growth and social harmony."

Hence, a deliberate selfish act against the people could end in nothing but failure.

Zhang also warned that the Chinese people and the government should prepare for meaner atrocities the separation clique might take in future since inciting self-immolation did not seem to lead them to an upper hand.

But, the scholars are positive, emphasizing that the serpent nature of the Tibet "government-in-exile" is worsening their reputation and their vilification on the Chinese government is further proved to be non-sense, especially under the situation of a progressive development of China's Tibet. Moreover, no matter how well they perform, Tibet will keep the developing trend towards a better future and the Tibetan people will live a happy life.
