Tibetans hail favorable policies
At the opening of the First Session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC), Tibetan deputy Padma Choling wears a badge of late Chairman Mao Zedong (1893-1976) ,which attracted wide attention of the participants.
According to him, he and his fellows appreciate Chairman Mao as he liberated Tibetan serfs and built up a new Tibet by leading all the Chinese people, including those of the ethnic Han, Tibetan and many other ethnic groups. Thus he has deep benevolence to the Tibetans.
During the past 60 years since the peaceful liberation in 1951, the living standard has been improved dramatically, especially during the last five years.
According to the government work report of Tibet Autonomous Region in the recently concluded Tibetan annual "two sessions", during the past five years the per capita net income of Tibetan farmers and nomads reaches 5,645 yuan (about 907 US dollars), increasing by 15 percent year on year since 2007, and that of the urban residents reaches 18,056 yuan (about 2,901 US dollars).
During the past five years, the government of the Tibet Autonomous Region has been attached importance to improving people’s life. More than 88 percent of all farmers and nomads have moved into new houses, another 1.73 millions locals have accessed safe drinking water and 0.67 million accessed electricity.
Altogether 99.7 percent of all the townships and 94.2 percent of all the villages in Tibet have been connected with highways. The coverage rate of radio and television has reached over 93 percent, and that of mobile internet in agricultural and pastoral areas has reached percent.
As to public health, free physical examination has covered all the urban and rural residents, more than one thousand children with congenital heart disease have been cured freely, and the mortality of pregnant women and infants have been reduced to 176.2/100,000 and 24.84‰ in 2012.
Apart from the series of statistics, it is the feeling of local Tibetans that is the most persuasive.
"We are quite grateful that local doctors give us free treatment," said Tsesum, a Tibetan grandma aged at nearly 70, who waited early for the doctors and nurses to come for a physical check-up.
"It is really like a dream that my child has been cured, without spending any money. We owe so much to our government," said a Tibetan mother, whose kid Karma can run as fast as other children of his age last year, after his congenital heart disease had been cured.
They are the representatives of the huge number of beneficiaries benefited from various policies of government toward Tibet, which have brought huge improvement to local residents of Tibetan and many other ethnic groups since they have having been implemented in Tibet for more than 60 years, central government's policies toward Tibet.
During the historical developing period of Tibet Autonomous Region China's Central Government has kept on the appropriate policies to profit Tibetan more, including correcting the wrong policies after the Cultural Revolution ended.
The central government has never denied there are still disadvantages and weakness in development existing in Tibet Autonomous Region and other Tibetan-inhabited areas, and keeps trying to promote the local living standard in order to make all the Tibetans enjoy the achievements of development as people of other ethnic groups.
On the other hand, we have to ask for the reason why intensive incidents broke out as Chinese citizens, both Tibetans and the Han, are focusing on how to improve life further.
The coincidence makes people can't help connecting the recent self-immolations with manipulations going on behind the scenes, and asking why those controllers are keen to sacrifice the lives of their fellows to realize their own political goals instead of thinking how to give them a much happier life than before.
