On 14th Dalai Lama's view of 'political reform'

The 14th Dalai Lama is playing new tricks on the so-called Tibet issue this year: on the one hand, the Dalai Lama said he would "retire" soon; on the other hand, he strongly called for China to conduct “political reform”.

As a "religious leader", is it appropriate for the Dalai Lama to talk so much about politics?

Anyone who has a little knowledge of European history knows that Europe was under the dual ruling system of politics and religion in the Medieval Era, an utmost brutal and dark time for the Europeans.

Now, does it remind us of something when the Dalai Lama talked about politics in such a bombastic way? Well, it does tell us that the Dalai Lama is a "political lama", as some foreign politicians put it.

Foreign media reported that the Dalai Lama once claimed that "the reign of a spiritual leader, a king or a monarch is out-of-date". He said the autocratic system-only one person can have the final say-which existed for centuries since the 5th Dalai Lama's reign should be abolished. He even said that it was time for the 14th Dalai Lama to put an end to such an underdeveloped system.

It was 50 years later after he escaped to India when the Dalai Lama brought up the so-called idea of "reform", and took it as an excuse to coerce China to carry on a "political reform".

It is easy to see that the Dalai Lama knows little about politics and the political conditions in China than Tibetan Buddhism.

The founding of the People's Republic of China, led by the Communist Party of China made a historic and fundamental subversion of the old semi-feudal and semi-colonial system. All the Chinese people have become masters of their own country, and representatives from different parties, sectors, and levels have been able to participate in the political and state affairs. It happened several decades ahead of the system the Dalai Lama just started to mention as "one person has the final say" today.

Nowadays, China's great development has drawn worldwide attention, even the 14th Dalai Lama with his followers have had to acknowledge and affirm the facts in his propaganda in recent years.

However, no one believes the Dalai Clique would do an in-depth and objective analysis on the reasons behind China's great achievements. It's believed to do good to both the Dalai Clique and western Tibet issue fanfarons to read some notes offered by the writer as follows.

The social change in China taken place over the past 30 years has been imbued with a great number of political factors. The structural reform in all fields helped China step into the socialist market economy system from the former planned economic system. The policy of opening up wider to the outside world transformed China from a closed and semi-closed to a fully open society. The upholding economic development as the central task has enhanced China's overall national strength. The strategy of improving people's livelihood has upgraded people's living standard to a moderately prosperous level. Developing socialist democracy has guaranteed the rights of the people as the masters of the country. Creating a socialist culture has met people's cultural need. Supporting social undertakings have helped promote social harmony and stability. And adhering to the strict "self-discipline" principle has improved the Party's capability of leadership and governance.

Undoubtedly, the reforms in all of the above fields have applied the concept of the political reform since they have all gone through the improvement of the political system and political institution. It is obvious that the Dalai Lama and his followers are so ignorant of the general knowledge of systematic political reforms as well as the history and reality of China.

"The 30-year period after China adopted the reform and opening-up policy is the best time in China's modern history," wrote Mike Chinoy, former chief reporter of CNN in Beijing for ten years. He thinks that China only took 30 years to fulfill the mission that Britain and the U.S. have accomplished for 100 years during the Industrial Revolution.

Hu Angang, a famous Chinese economist attributed the political reason for the remarkable achievements in the past three decades to "the institutionalization, standardization and formality in the shift of old and new leadership in China, as well as the democratization, scientific approach and systemization in public policy making".

"The most important reason for the long-term peace and stability in China lies in the balance of power between the top down and bottom up, which is called 'vertical democracy', which was held not by individuals but by the collective leadership, said Naisbitt, a well-known American prophet after his on-the-spot investigation and a long-term in-depth research in China.

On the contrary, Naisbitt noticed that the western democracy has become full-fledged for more than several generations while the Chinese democracy has made such a big progress within just one generation. Now it is moving ahead with an increasing the two-way vertical balance of power. So he also argued that whether the western democracy was the only acceptable form of democracy. China was creating its own social and political system.

Democracy is one of the topics which the Dalai Lama and his followers like to talk about. Therefore, the writer responded to him with quotes from this above-mentioned masters known worldwide.

Now the writer would suggest that the Dalai Lama and his followers take some courses of Chinese history, the history of the Communist Party of China and the development of 30 years of China's reform and opening-up policy. Only by then would they talk sense about China.
