Guise of peace, vainly fear about Tibetan culture

US President Barack Obama met with the 14th Dalai Lama on June 16, a move that put China in fume.

During the closed-door meeting, Obama reiterated his support for the preservation of Tibet's religious, cultural and linguistic traditions. It seemed to convince the world that the meeting between the two Noble Prize laureates was to perform their duties and obligations to preserve world peace and promote culture.

However, people would prefer to believe otherwise.

It is a universally held view that any "religious activity" of the Dalai Lama, either in the United States or in the European countries, has never been independent of politics. The recent meeting has not only hurt the feelings of the Chinese people, but also put its internal and external "troubles" into a pretty impasse..

The Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) jokingly advised Obama to ask his friends - the Dalai Lama, who was very apt at handling difficult situations and breaking the ice, to give him a hand to the debt-ceiling problem. The report said "only the Dalai Lama could "soothe" the traumatized councilors who had been suffering from an attack of nerves.

Both the Dalai Lama and Obama have been trying to cover up their deeds, which went against what they have preached, but only to make it more conspicuous: the United State persists on interfering into China’s internal affairs, while the Dalai Lama never stops carving up China.

Does politics bring a benefit of  individual improvement or just a tool to knock down the opponent? Let’s look into the answers of those two politicians.

The reasons why the Norway Nobel Peace Price Committee granted the title of Nobel Peace Prize to Obama in 2009, who just took office in less than a year, mainly lied in their support to the goal that Obama has been preaching. All of this, however, has become a "pretence" for the United States to interfere into the affairs of others.

By "begging for" political support during his visit to Washington, D.C., the Dalai Lama, who had already claimed that he "would retire from his political position", swallowed his words. In the guise of peace, the lama tore apart the trust of peace lovers all over the world.

It is obvious the Dalai Lama is neither qualified for a politician, nor a religious leader.

As for the situation of Tibetan culture, both the Dalai Lama clique and Obama are feeling a groundless fear.

The unified yet diversified Tibetan culture was greatly influenced by Buddhism and has gradually formed its unique time-honored charm. The tireless attempts to "protect Tibetan culture" may instead make it rigid like relics lying in the museum and kill its vitality.

Great cultures are those which are good at exchanges, not in a stiff way, but like two gear wheels, engage together and motivate each other. Cultural exchanges and interaction are closely related. The Shangri-la in westerners’ eyes is merely an imagination about the "backward, mysterious, purely spiritual "Oriental world" in contrast to the "developed, and modern" western world. However, this is not the objective Tibetan culture, nor totally an illusion, but a human-created result over a long period of time.

The so-called "Tibetan culture" that Obama supports is actually "the other", created to distinguish from his own identity. This is totally illogical and pointless to even waste any refute.  The 14th Dalai Lama is a spiritual, religious and political leader. Hence, the Obama’s remarks that the US-China relationship should be "in the same boat", "mutual respect" and "understand the present by reviewing the past" has become a lie.

We should always remember that Buddha is worshipped not because of his power, but his mercy to help others. It doesn’t make him a qualified politician by using "peace" as a mask to cover up his trouble-making acts. We should not make "peace" just a slogan or an illusion, nor should we indulge those so-called politicians to harm people’s livelihood in the disguise of "culture" or "religion".
