Birthday celebrations can't cover Dalai Lama's loss
It is just before his 77-year-old birthday that Western politicians upset Dalai Lama once again. What a sad thing for him!
According to the BBC, the Milan City Council of Italy approved a proposal of canceling the plan to grant the title of "honorary citizen" to the Dalai Lama for fear of harming its economic relations with China.
Obviously, comparing with the "honor" brought by the Dalai Lama, the Milan city hall attaches more importance to its trade ties with China.
Apart from that, granting the Dalai Lama the "honor" may also affect communications between Milan and China.
For Italian politicians trapped by sovereign debt crisis, it is apparently not worth it to irritate China as a result of the above two reasons. Hence, they had to abandon the Dalai Lama.
Were it a birthday present that Milan gave to the Dalai Lama?
And What is wrong with Western politicians that always defend the Dalai Lama? Why do they choose to disappoint the Dalai Lama prior to his birthday party?
The reason is simple. The Dalai Lama is merely the pawn of Western countries. And they can throw him away at any time when he is against their interests.
This can also be proven by their reactions to the "self-immolations" agitated by the Dalai Lama.
But he must be disappointed because "self-immolations" not only didn't cause concerns of the international community, but it put himself into a dilemma.
Western countries claim that the "self-immolation" is a kind of extreme terrorism against humanity. For the Westerners who are fighting hard against terrorism, they certainly fear that supporting the Dalai Lama will bring them moral troubles.
Instead, they only made some symbolic gestures. Or they began to criticize their "idol" either on purpose or not. At this point, the Dalai Lama is not as popular as he used to be in the West.
To change this awkward situation, the Dalai Lama needs a chance to resume his "reputation" and boost his "image". His birthday is just a good opportunity, so he must grab it!
The Dalai Lama is getting older and older, while there is less and less support from the West in his pursuit for "Tibet independence". And the more "self-immolations" of Tibetan monks he instigates, the less popular he will be in the West. With no other choice, he makes use of his birthday celebrations to hide the external disadvantages and the discord within his own clique.
Nevertheless, the more "glamorous" the celebrations are, the more depressed he is for he has to "sell" his birthday to regain international attention at such an old age!
Last but not least, how many more birthdays the Dalai Lama can sell?
