Unsafe buildings identified in Zhouqu
The evaluation and identification of damaged buildings in the mudslide zone in Zhouqu County in northwest China's Gansu Province is underway. So far, almost half the buildings have been identified as unsafe.
Wang Zhenming, Gansu Institute of Civil Engineering, said, "Because these buildings were swept by the mudslides or flooded, their foundations are seriously damaged."
The evaluation and identification process is underway in the whole county, now that waters have receded. So far, the experts have evaluated 210 buildings. 67 will have to be torn down.
57 buildings have already been pulled down in the San-yan-yu and Luo-jia-yu Valleys. Dismantling has yet to begin in Zhouqu County, and reconstruction layout is still in the designing stage.
