Commentary: Everyone has a responsibility to protect folk art
Folk art is culture. It is an imminent task and a responsibility for everyone and every institution to protect the folk culture.
What is the best way to protect and develop the folk art?
First, the culture departments should continue to increase funding to support the protection of folk art, build up a strong team of folk artists and inherit handicrafts.
Second, the digitization of intangible cultural heritage should be further enhanced. Recently, the former predicament facing intangible heritage protection that “people die, art is lost” has gradually been alleviated. Now, the archive digitization for Tibet’s intangible inheritors is basically finished, a large number of inheritors’ pictures, audios and videos as well as all other media materials have already been included in the digital archive.
Third, schools and education departments should increase students’ awareness of folk art protection and continue to develop the splendid folk culture.
