Tibetan people's livelihood was highlighted at the video and telephone conference on 20th Anniversary of aiding Tibet work on Aug. 25, 2014 in Beijing.

Aid-Tibet cadres from Tibet Autonomous Region, other inland provinces and Chinese state-owned enterprises, agreed that priority task was the improvement of local people's production and living conditions at grassroots level.

According to Shi Guanghui, vice mayor of Shanghai, during the past 20 years, Shanghai has helped build 58 schools and 41 medical institutions for five counties of southwest Tibet's Shigatse Prefecture, to establish a network of regional, county and grassroots levels.

According to Shu Yinbiao, general manager of State Grid, one of the Chinese state-owned enterprises with aiding-Tibet task, the cooperation settled down to achieve household electricity in Tibet during the past decades. Over 22 billion yuan (about 3.6 billion U.S. dollars) has been invested into Qinghai-Tibet and Sichuan-Tibet Electricity Network, according to him, and now the power supply has covered 45 counties from all the 74 counties in Tibet.

Take the investment for an example, during the past decades over 70 percent of the investments and over 80 percent of the projects aimed at the living conditions at grassroots level, as well as the farming and pasturing areas in Tibet, which were usually remoter and more poverty stricken than other areas.

According to the statistics released on the conference, during the past 20 years an investment of 26 billion (about 4.2 billion U.S. dollars) has been invested to help with the development of Tibet, a total of 7,615 aiding projects have been launched in Tibet, and near 6,000 aiding Tibet cadres have been sent to Tibet, since the nationwide partner assistance was confirmed on the third Tibet Work Forum in 1994.
