In 2014, the Tibet People's Congress actively organized overseas exchange activities in 11 countries and areas including the U.S., Canada and Australia. These exchanges served to increase awareness about the Tibet Autonomous Region and put the squeeze on the space usually held by the 14th Dalai Lama on the international arena, according to Wang Dewen, vice secretary of the Standing Committee of the Tibet People's Congress, reported by Chinanews.com.
According to Wang, the overseas events were held to introduce the reform and opening up of Tibet, the system of the people's congress in China, and many achievements in local economy and people's livelihood.
The Third Plenary Session of the 10th Tibet People's Congress, one of the most important regional conferences in Tibet, was held from Jan. 18 to Jan. 22, 2015.
