Editor's note: The Sichuan-Tibet Plateau, a beautiful region that reaches toward the heavens, is a place showered with blue skies, covered in white clouds, and dotted with snow-covered mountains, but recently, something truly remarkable has been materializing among the households that call this place home. A groundbreaking historic change has been reshaping the land and its people. From today on, we will publish a series of stories to tell you those changes.

Yibin City has done a lot to make sure that the Kham Culture has been well promoted to the outside world. In 2016, it invested 29.5 million yuan (4.53 million USD) to build the Guogangding scenic spot, with 8.5 million yuan (1.31 million USD) having been reached as part of the assistance fund. It built 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) of tourist roads, two public restrooms near a 2,300-square-meter (24,757-square-foot) parking lot, and 3.16 kilometers (2 miles) of tourist walkways. The new unobstructed road brought in more tourists, and villagers were able to increase their incomes by selling local specialties. In 2017, Yinbin invested another nine million yuan (1.38 million USD) to make the infrastructure more suitable for tourists, and invited Kanghui Tourism to build the second largest horseracing track in Asia, which could provide 20 jobs for locals and increase the income of the village collective by more than 100,000 yuan (15, 349 USD).

"This year, our emphasis is to move the representatives of  Khampa men and the 30 people on the horseback performing troupe to Guogangding Mountain and increase revenue through Kham performances and cultural diffusion. We will start a media campaign to build the venue, and the corporation will pay 800,000 yuan (122, 794 USD) for rent, which will increase per capita income by 1,000 yuan (153.5 USD). This way, the village's annual per capita income will reach more than 3,500 yuan (537.2 USD), and this will most certainly lift the locals out of their poverty, exclaims Renze Duoji, township party committee secretary, full of confidence about what tomorrow will bring.
