Tibet welcomes more than 100 Mt.Qomolangma climbers this spring
More than 300 mountain climbers look forward to ascend the Mt. Qomolangma, the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Cho Oyu, the sixth highest peak, as well as Mt. Shishapangma, the 14th highest in the world in this spring as the spring climbing activities kick off in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
Among all the 300 climbers, more than 100 of them are planning to climb the Mt. Qomolangma, in whom 24 are Chinese climbers.
According to Sonam, director with the Tibet Mountaineering Management Center, the climbing activities will run from early April to early June.
In order to ensure safety of climbers, the Tibet Mountaineering Association and the Sacred Mountains Adventure Company will send more than one hundred staff to provide services to climbers. In addition, the Base Camp of the Mt. Qomolangma will be connected to the power grid for electricity this spring, instead of using an independent power generator in previous years. Power supply will be more stable, convenient, and clean, and the living conditions of climbers will be improved.
Tibet is rich in mountain resources. There are five peaks over 8,000 meters high with Mt. Qomolangma included, attracting a large number of foreign and domestic climbers. Climbing activities are generally held in spring and autumn.
In recent years, Tibet has increased investment in infrastructure construction around the Mt. Qomolangma scenic area, and the tourism capacity has been improved, with the road from Tingri county to the Base Camp been paved, and electricity accessible in the Camp. Besides, a tourist service station has also been built to provide rescue and accommodation services to visitors.
The region's tourism bureau reminds visitors that Base Camp of Mt. Qomolangma can be visited all year, and winter and spring seasons are good times to see the panorama of the mountain. However, the temperature difference between day and night is great, and visitors should prepare for the cold.
In addition, visitors are reminded to mind their behavior to protect the local fragile ecological environment.
Starting from April 1, ticket price of Mt. Qomolangma scenic spot resumes to 180 yuan (26 US dollars) for one person.
