Lhasa Gonggar Airport hits three million passenger mark

According to the Civil Aviation Administration's Tibet Branch, the annual passenger throughput of Lhasa Gonggar Airport exceeded three million people for first time on November.

Lhasa Gonggar Airport has witnessed its passenger throughput increase from two million in 2013 to three million in 2016. Since the beginning of this year, seven new air routes (Lhasa-Qingdao, Lhasa-Shenzhen, Lhasa-Nanjing and Lhasa-Hangzhou) have been opened, which brings its total to 71. The number of cities linked with Tibet amounted to 41. The annual passenger throughput is expected to be about 3.3 million.

Thanks to the rapid development of Tibet economy and society, Tibet's civil aviation has achieved great development. Compared with the previous year, the passenger throughput and cargo throughput have grown by 12.8 percent and 7.3 percent respectively.

At the moment, Tibet has formed a three-dimensional traffic system. There are five airports (Gonggar Airport, Bamda Airport, Mainling Airport, Gunsa Airport, Heping Airport) in Tibet. Lhasa Gonggar Airport is located in Gonggar County of Shannan, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
