Third China Thangka Art Festival to open in Lhasa
The 3rd Thangka Art Festival will be held from September 10th to October 10th in Lhasa, the capital city of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
The exquisite Thangka exhibition, Thangka trade show, and high-end forum are three of the important activities that will be conducted during the festival.
It is reported that more than 200 excellent Thangka works were picked from 1000 pieces solicited prior to the exhibition, and they are all set to compete for the gold, silver, bronze and other prizes during this exhibition.
The festival is a grand showcase of Thangka art, a move to systemize Thangka resources and a good initiative to promote Thangka art. It can raise people's awareness for the art. It's very important to preserve the traditional craft.
The high-end forum will gather Thangka artists from different places, of different styles under one roof to promote academic exchanges, and to push forward the traditional art.
Thangka painting is sometimes also referred to as scroll-painting. A Thangka painting can be as small as the palm of your hand, or so big that you need a mountain to fully showcase it. The world's largest one is 120 meters long and 85 meters wide. It took 10 masters more than nine years to finish.
