Tibetan non-Party patriot(s) give new-year speech

On January 22, over 60 non-Party patriots including Tibetan religious persons, non-Party intellectuals, individuals from non-public sectors of the economy as well as the returned overseas Tibetans gathered at the home of patriots of the United Front Department of the Tibetan Autonomous Region’s Party Committee, celebrating in a friendly and delightful manner the tea party welcoming the Spring Festival and the Tibetan New Year.

Gonbo Tashi, a member of the standing committee of the Party Committee in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, and the secretary as well as vice-president of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, and furthermore head of the the United Front Department of the Tibetan Autonomous Region’s Party Committee, attended and made remarks at the meeting. Kalsang Tsering, vice-president of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, and standing vice-president of the United Front Department of the Tibetan Autonomous Region’s Party Committee chaired the meeting.

During the meeting, Gonbo Tashi indicated that, in the past year, the Central Party along with comrade Xi Jinping as the general-secretary has convened the 6th Forum on Work in Tibet which made a new predication for stable development in Tibet, realizing the Party’s new leap in governing the borderlands and stabilizing Tibet, thereby commencing a new era of governing Tibet policy. Last year, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, Tibet perfectly accomplished the target of the 12th Five-Year Plan, thereby successfully unsealing the new journey made clear in the planning of the 13th Five- Year Plan. Especially, the working conferences of the United Fronts from the standing committee of the Central Party Committee and that of the Tibetan Autonomous Region’s Party Committee were held in succession; the related workable documents were issued, all of this has reflected that the Central Government has moved forward to reinforcing the united-front work. The Party Committee of the Tibetan Autonomous Region has paid more attention to supporting the ethnic religious undertakings of the United Front, which has deeply encouraged non-Party personages.  

GonboTashi emphasized that, this year is the year during a decisive period that shall begin programming for the 13th Five Year Plan and the start of a comprehensive establishment for a well-off society. It is also the year for the Central Government to comprehensively carry out a series of important decisions and deployments including those regarding the Forum on Work in Tibet as well as the United Front work. Everyone should follow the spirit in those speeches made by general-secretary Xi Jinping, especially the strategic idea of “governing the state-governing the borderland; governing the borderland – means first stabilizing Tibet” as well as the important instructions made clear in the statement “reinforce ethnic solidarity – build up a beautiful Tibet”. We at the same time must be together with the Party and the Central Government to bring bigger contributions about in the establishment of a beautiful Tibet.
