Five fully developed, giant hanging glaciers were discovered recently on Bujia Mountain in the intersection between Chamdo and Nagqu prefectures in Tibet, China Tibet News reported.
The longest of these glaciers has an elevation of over 4,200 meters and a total drop of over 2,100 meters. According to previous records, the largest hanging glacier was the Hailuogou glacier in Sichuan Province with a drop of 1,080 meters. Glaciers from the 6,328-meter summit of Bujia Mountain fall down, forming a glacier body with a slope of approximately 70 degrees.
Research and understanding of these glaciers will be significant to the ecological protection and rational utilization of the eastern part of the Dangla mountain range.
