Tibet's first professional basketball team gears up for NBL
After claiming the national 7th and all-Chinese teams'No 1 titles in their first participation in China's National Basketball League (NBL), Tibet’s first professional basketball team, Lhasa Jingtu or Pureland, is recruiting new players to prepare for NBL’s 2016 season.
Tsetam Dorje, president of Jingtu said that more local players in Tibet will be recruited next year and that the new recruits will gather in Beijing and prepare for a second round of selection if necessary.
The Tibetan team was launched in February 2015, which ended a history in which there was no Tibet-based professional basketball team and no professional Tibetan basketball players and coaches registered with China Basketball Association (CBA). The home court of the team is set at a stadium built at an altitude of 3,646 meters and is the highest basketball court in China.
