Tibet hosts mountaineering training course for spring season

The 8th alpine skills training course of the Tibet Autonomous Region was recently held in Lhasa. Nearly a hundred people from the mountaineering community participated in the course for the upcoming spring season, according to the mountaineering team of the TAR on Nov.16.

Alpine photographers, doctors, meteorologists, environmentalists, wilderness rescue members, and other renowned experts were invited to teach in order to improve and update information related to mountaineering.

Experts from outdoor education groups were also invited to lecture, helping foster the awareness of outdoor physical activities, especially in high altitude. Tibet's sports department has decided to invest heavily to develop the outdoor industry, and build a Himalayan mountaineering center and the nation’s foremost region for the outdoors activities, reports said.

The first alpine mountaineering skills course was hosted in 2008, which effectively helped trainees improve understanding and knowledge of mountaineering.After that, the alpine training course has become an annual event within the Tibetan mountaineering community, with its training scale increasing and content becoming diverse.
