Shigatse City has recently opened its first airmail routes, making mail delivery time even faster, according to China Post.

Previously, all mail from Shigatse had to be forwarded to mail centers in Lhasa. Mail would first be sorted at the terminal in Lhasa before being sent to Chengdu, which required a lot of time.

With the opening of new airmail routes, mail from Shigatse can be sent directly to Chengdu, shortening the delivery time by two or three days.

Shigatse is an important commodity base in the Tibet Autonomous Region and an important home of Tibetan culture. The region includes the Mt. Qomolangma Nature Reserve, Tashilhunpo Monastery, Sakya Monastery, and other famous sites.
