Currently, restoration and reconstruction work at Shangrila’s Dukezong Ancient Town in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan, is in full swing, Xinhua reported.

According to the overall plan, local funds of 1.22 billion yuan (196.77 million US dollars) will be invested and the project will be completed in 2016.

According to reports, during the reconstruction process, history, minority culture and customs will be fully respected; and repairs and new construction will reflect the old style. At present, all basic infrastructure facilities, including electricity, communications, fire service, water supply and drainage and others are basically complete. During this year’s National Day holiday, two commercial streets already opened to the public to allow tourists to visit the ancient town.

Dukezong Ancient Town, or "Moonlight City", with a history of more than 1,300 years, suffered a devastating fire on Jan. 11, 2014.
